Wet Weather Event Planning
Weather is one of the biggest uncertainties when planning an outdoor event. Rain doesn’t always mean cancelling, but it does mean having a sensible backup plan. This guide explains how to plan for wet weather so your event can still run smoothly and safely.
Have an indoor or covered backup
If possible, always plan an indoor alternative. School halls, sports halls, community centres and church halls can often be used if weather conditions change. For these venues, equipment from our Soft Play Hire range or Mini Low Height Bouncy Castles is often the most suitable option.
If your event must remain outdoors, covered areas can help. Many organisers add Event Gazebos to provide shelter for queues, registration points, staff or quieter activities.
Choose equipment that works in mixed conditions
Some inflatables cope better with changeable weather than others. Smaller bouncy castles and soft play setups are easier to relocate indoors if needed. Larger inflatables and obstacle courses need more space and firmer ground, so they are best planned with clear weather windows or alternative activities.
Football inflatables such as the Foot Darts Kick n Stick and Penalty Shootout are often used at mixed-age events and can work well alongside other activities when weather allows.
Ground conditions matter
Wet grass, muddy areas or uneven ground can affect where inflatables can be placed. It’s important to consider drainage and avoid low-lying areas that may collect water. Our team will always assess the setup area on arrival and advise if adjustments are needed.
If an area becomes unsuitable, having a second location planned in advance can save time and stress.
Power and safety checks
Outdoor events in wet conditions require extra care around power. If mains power is not available or suitable, we can supply a Generator. Cables are positioned carefully, and equipment is set up with safety in mind.
Inflatables are only operated when conditions are safe. If weather becomes unsuitable, we may need to pause or stop use to protect users and equipment.
Supervision and communication
Wet weather often means higher footfall in smaller areas, which makes supervision even more important. For larger events, schools or public fun days, adding Staff Supervisors can help manage queues and keep play organised.
Clear communication with attendees is also helpful. Letting people know about timetable changes or alternative activities reduces frustration and keeps the event running calmly.
Keep plans flexible
The most successful wet weather events are the ones planned with flexibility in mind. A reduced setup, shorter sessions or a mix of indoor and outdoor activities can all help adapt to conditions on the day.
